How do I refer to a specific line of a poem or a play in APA referencing?
In APA referencing, all quotations only require the author’s name, the date and the page number. However, if you strongly wish to include a line reference you could add it after the page number. You should also check with your lecturer for any specific guidance.
Example
“To Strive, to seek, to find and not to yield” (Tennyson, 2004, p. 28, line 70)
“When shall we three meet again” (Shakespeare, 2010, p.3, Act I.1, line 1)
