How do I reference loose-leaf volumes in OSCOLA?

Answer

Below you will find guidance and examples of how to reference loose-leaf volumes in footnotes and in the bibliography:

Footnotes:

When referencing a loose-leaf you only need the Title of the publication in italics. Only include the editors if their names appear in the title.

Example:

Ryde on Rating and the Council Tax.

Do not include pinpointing unless absolutely necessary as the pinpointing may change when the publication is updated.

If a pinpoint is included, use this format:

Title, | volume number, | paragraph number | (release/issue number OR date).

Examples:

Clarke Hall & Morrison on Children, vol 2, para 522-525 (issue 102).

Encyclopedia of Consumer Credit Law, vol 3, para X-729J (May 2017).

Bibliography:

Pinpoints are not included in the bibliography so you only need the title of the publication without the full stop at the end.
